Science Time - Take A Deep Breath

Science time is a favorite for the kids.  And because of that I try my best to fit in one or two good science project days into our homeschool weeks.
Are all kids amazed and curious about the human body?  I don't know but my kids certainly are.  Since I am a geologist, my interests are much more inclined towards the non-living parts of science but not this crew.  Thus I stretch myself in teaching them.
One of the things of late is studying about our organs.  The magnetic man in the pictures is a great start for them to learn about the different organs and where they are located under our skin.  We also have a great book about the body that we like to study.  But what makes science time even better is hand on models.  Like this one Ethan is using.  We made it to learn how the lungs inflate and deflate as we breathe.  The balloon at the bottom represents the diaphragm and taught the kids so much about the importance of that muscle.
Listening to our lung sounds added to the fun as well.  Yeah for us, our breathing was clear.  No congestions or pneumonia at our house!!
