Art Class - Oils and Water

Art is not my strong point.  But then I am married to an artist and am raising some as well.  So pushing myself to teaching art is an important skill for me to do.
The kids color and draw everyday.  But art class is important to teach them new skills and bring out tools that are fun to use besides crayons and colored pencils.
So the other day we used oil pastels to learn about horizons being drawn first and then drawing our details above and below that horizon line.
After that the kids painted with watercolors over the oil pastels.  Teaching big strokes is important and that we aren't painting small in this project but big as we did the small with the oil pastels.
It was a fun project for the kids to do and see.  How fun to watch their oil pastels pop out of the water color paint as it all dried.  I was so proud of the kids, their focus and of myself.  Now that is a good feeling too.
