From Garden To Table

The other day the kids and I were in the garden and we were talking about how a rabbit was eating our cabbage.  Then we started to talk about how moose eat our cabbage.  This reminded the kids of one of their favorite books.  So they ran right away and grabbed it and we sat right there in the garden reading The Giant Cabbage book.
At the end of it is the recipe that the animals make for cabbage soup.  My little people begged me to make it for themselves.
So the next day we headed out mid morning to see what our garden had to offer.
The kids pulled the carrots
and dug for potatoes.
Inside Naomi was in charge of the scrubbing
Ethan and Abigail did the chopping
Then they worked to mix it all together with one of our big cabbages and homemade chicken broth all topped with our garden dried parsley.  Doesn't get much better.
How much fun it was to have a few friends over for a dinner made by the kids from our garden bounty.  The best garden to table lesson I could give these kids of mine.  So fun.
